What F91 means
On Frigidaire freestanding gas and electric ranges built since about 2004, such as the PLEF398DC and GLEF378DS, F91 means the control tried to unlock the oven door too many times without success. It keeps count, and when the maximum is reached it stops trying and shows F91. You may find the oven door stuck shut after a self-clean, or the oven refusing to start.
Common causes of F91
- The latch motor that fails to complete an unlock
- The latch switch reporting the position
- Wiring to the latch
- Door alignment that makes the latch bind
1. Let the oven cool. 2. Turn the oven's power off at the outlet or breaker for up to 30 seconds and on again. 3. See whether the door releases, and note whether the code comes back. 4. Do not pry at the door, since that can bend the latch.
- F91 is a count of failed tries, so the question is what keeps an unlock from finishing.
- We check the latch movement, the switch and the door alignment.
- You see a written price first, and we say so plainly if an older range is not worth it.
Other Range codes
Why do both F90 and F91 exist?
F90 is about how long an unlock took. F91 is about how many times it tried. Both point at the latch, but the test differs, so we read the code before we start.
Can door alignment cause F91?
Yes. A door that binds on the latch can make unlocking fail repeatedly. We check how the door sits as well as the latch motor and switch.
Is an older range with F91 worth fixing?
Often yes. We tell you plainly before we begin if it is not, and you see a written price first, so the decision is yours.
Still seeing F91?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
