What F90 means
On Frigidaire freestanding gas and electric ranges built since about 2004, such as the PLEF398DC and GLEF378DS, F90 means the oven door took more than the allowed time to unlock. On Gallery and Professional slide-ins from 2009, it also means the door motor mechanism has failed to turn, so the control never sees the motor rotating. You may find the door stays locked after a clean cycle, with F90 on the display.
Common causes of F90
- The door latch motor, which may not be turning
- The latch switch that reports the lock position
- The wiring between the latch and the control
- The control that tracks the unlock time
1. Let the oven cool completely. 2. Remove power at the plug or breaker for up to 30 seconds, then restore it. 3. Watch whether the door unlocks on its own after a few minutes. 4. Resist forcing the door, since that can damage the latch.
- F90 says unlocking timed out, so we watch the latch to see whether the motor turns at all.
- We test the motor, the switch and the wiring.
- You get a written price first, and a plain answer on whether an older range merits the repair.

Will the door unlock on its own after F90?
Sometimes it does after the reset. If it stays locked, do not force it. We can release the latch on the visit and find out why it did not unlock in time.
Is F90 a safety problem?
The control is protecting against an unlocked or half-locked door during heat, so we would treat it that way. Keep the oven off until the latch has been checked.
Do you repair these older ranges with F90?
Yes. Houston is full of ranges this age, and we repair them. We give you a written price and tell you plainly if the repair is not worth it.
Still seeing F90?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
