What F7 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 means
On Frigidaire freestanding electric ranges with the ESEC 10R surface element control, such as the PLEF398DC, F7 followed by 10, 20, 30 or 40 means the potentiometer for one surface element reads open. The tens digit names the element: 10 for the left front, 20 for the left rear, 30 for the right rear and 40 for the right front. You will see one burner stop answering while the others work. These older ranges remain in many Houston homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of F7 10 / 20 / 30 / 40
- The potentiometer behind that element's knob
- The wiring from that knob to the interface board
- The interface board connection for that element
1. Note which burner was in use when the code appeared. 2. Turn every element off. 3. Take power off the range at the plug or breaker for a short time, then restore it. 4. Leave the knob in place, and try the other burners one at a time to see which still respond.
- The code names the element, so we start at that knob and its wiring.
- We test the knob and its link to the board, then the board.
- A written price comes first, and an honest word on whether an older range is worth the repair.
Other Range codes
Which burner does the number mean?
10 is the left front, 20 the left rear, 30 the right rear and 40 the right front. We start our testing at that knob and its wiring.
Do the other burners still work with F7 10?
Usually, since the code concerns one knob circuit. We would still test them before telling you it is safe to use them, so nothing is left to chance.
Is a knob repair worth it on an older range?
Often yes, since it is a smaller repair. We tell you if a board makes it not worth it, and you get a written price before any work begins.
Still seeing F7 10 / 20 / 30 / 40?
