What F5 00 / F5 01 / F5 02 means
Frigidaire freestanding electric ranges with the ESEC 10R electronic surface element control, such as the PLEF398DC, show F5 followed by two digits when the surface control loses contact with one of its parts. F5 00 means the oven control cannot reach the UIB, the user interface board. F5 01 means the power board cannot reach the UIB. F5 02 means the UIB is not answering at all. These older ranges are common across Houston, and we repair them.
Common causes of F5 00 / F5 01 / F5 02
- The harness between the oven control and the UIB (F5 00)
- The link between the power board and the UIB (F5 01)
- The UIB itself (F5 02)
- Connectors at each board
1. Turn off all the elements. 2. Cut the power supply at the plug or breaker, wait briefly, and restore it. 3. See whether the code returns when you turn on a burner. 4. Keep the back of the range shut.
- The last two digits tell us which link dropped, so we write them down before we begin testing.
- We test the harness and each board's supply and signal.
- You see a written price before any part is replaced, and hear it straight if an older range is not worth it.
Other Range codes
What do the 00, 01 and 02 tell you?
They name which link or board stopped answering: the oven control, the power board, or the UIB. That saves us from replacing parts blindly and gets you a more accurate price.
Is the oven affected by an F5 code?
Often the oven still works while the surface elements do not. We would test both before telling you what is safe to use, since the two sections run separately.
Will resetting the power fix F5 02?
It may clear a one-time drop. If the same code returns, something in that link still needs testing, and the UIB is where we would look first for F5 02.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
