What F40 / F41 means
Current Frigidaire electric ranges and cooktops, such as the FFEF3054TS, FGEF3036TF, FPEF3077QF and FCRE3052AS, show F40 or F41 when the cooktop lockout circuit reports an error. This is not the same as the Lock setting you turn on yourself. It points to the lockout control board, its wiring, or the oven control. You may find the surface elements will not respond, or the display shows F40 or F41 at power-up.
Common causes of F40 / F41
- The wiring to the cooktop lockout control board
- The lockout control board
- The electronic oven control
- Connectors that have loosened over time
1. Turn off the elements and the oven. 2. Unplug the range or turn off its breaker for up to 30 seconds, then power it up. 3. Press OFF and hold it for 6 seconds to rule out the Lock setting. 4. Do not open the back panel.
- The two codes sit together, so we read the display and confirm which board is reporting before testing.
- We check the wiring first, then the lockout board and the control.
- A written price comes before any part is ordered.
Other Range codes
Is F40 the same as the cooktop lock dash?
No. The dash is a setting you can cancel yourself. F40 and F41 are errors in the lockout circuit, and cancelling the lock will not clear them.
Will a power reset help with F41?
It can clear a one-time glitch. If the code returns, the board or its wiring needs testing, and we start with the wiring because it is the simpler check.
Is an older range with F41 worth repairing?
Often a wiring or board repair is, and we tell you plainly before we start if it is not. You see a written price either way.
Still seeing F40 / F41?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
