What F23 means
On Frigidaire electric ranges with later electronic oven controls, F23 reports a communication failure between the oven control and the electronic surface element control. It applies to electric models only, since gas ranges do not use that board. On a 2003 wall oven the same characters mean the control lost contact with the glass touch board instead. You may see F23 at power-up with the burners not responding.
Common causes of F23
- The wiring link between the oven control and the surface control
- The surface element control board
- The oven control
- On a wall oven, the glass touch board and its connection
1. Turn off the elements and the oven. 2. Unplug the range or turn off its breaker, wait a few seconds, then restore the power. 3. Turn on one element and see whether F23 comes back. 4. Do not remove the back cover or the panel.
- The same characters can mean something else on a wall oven, so we confirm the appliance first.
- We test the link and each board's supply and output.
- You will see a written price, and hear it plainly if a board is a poor value on a range this age.
Other Range codes
Does F23 appear on gas ranges?
On the surface-control meaning, no. That meaning applies to electric models. A wall oven showing F23 would instead point at its glass touch board, so we check which appliance we are dealing with.
Will a reset help with F23?
It may, if the loss of contact was a one-time event. If the code returns, the link between the boards needs testing, and that is where we begin.
Do you service older wall ovens that show F23?
Yes. Houston homes still have plenty of older wall ovens and ranges, and we repair them. We tell you before we start if the repair is not worth it.
Still seeing F23?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
