What F10 means
On Frigidaire electric ranges and cooktops, F10 means the electronic oven control sensed what could be a runaway oven, a temperature climbing when it should not. The control looks for this when a relay is stuck closed or the oven sensor reads wrong, and it shuts the oven down to protect the range. Current models and freestanding gas and electric ranges built since about 2004 use the code. You will see F10 on the display and the oven stops heating or stays hot after you cancel.
Common causes of F10
- The oven temperature sensor and its wiring
- A relay that stays closed and keeps feeding the element
- The electronic oven control reading the sensor
- Heat from a cooktop or blocked venting reaching the control
1. Turn the oven off and crack the door open to let heat out. 2. Flip the breaker off or unplug the range for up to 30 seconds, then turn it on again. 3. If the oven starts overheating again, leave the power off and call us. 4. On a gas range, if you ever smell gas, get out of the house and call the gas utility from outside.
- Resetting power clears the message, but not a relay or sensor that is misbehaving.
- We compare the sensor reading with the real oven temperature and test the relay that switches the heat.
- We give you a written price first, and we do not leave an overheating oven running.

Is F10 dangerous?
It is a protective shutdown. The control saw a possible runaway temperature, so keep the oven off until we have checked it. If the oven keeps heating after you cancel, cut the power at the breaker.
Can a bad sensor cause F10?
Yes. A sensor that reads wrong can tell the control the oven is hotter than it is. A stuck relay can also do it, so we test both before we replace anything.
Do you work on older ranges with F10?
Yes. You will find older ranges with this control all over Houston, and we work on them regularly. We say plainly when a repair does not make sense.
Still seeing F10?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
