What F1 means
On current Frigidaire electric ranges and cooktops, F1 means a shorted keypad, so the control sees a key as stuck down. On older controls, F1 works as the first of a family of control codes, F10 through F13, and on the oldest ES100 to ES400 controls it points to the electronic oven control itself. So the same two characters can mean different things depending on how old your range is. We read the control and the model age first, then decide where to look.
Common causes of F1
- A key pad that reads as pressed because of moisture, grease or a worn membrane
- The ribbon between the keypad and the control board
- The electronic oven control on an older range, where F1 points to the control itself
1. Switch the range off and wipe the control panel dry. 2. Turn the range's breaker off, or pull the plug, for up to 30 seconds, and then restore power. 3. Watch the display for a minute without touching any key to see if F1 returns. 4. Resist the urge to press and hold keys to test them.
- The code alone does not tell us whether the cause is a keypad or a control, so the age of the range and its behavior matter.
- We test each key and its link to the control, and we look at the control last.
- You will have a written price before any part is ordered.
Other Range codes
What does F1 mean on my range?
On a current Frigidaire electric range it points to a shorted keypad, as if a key were stuck down. On older controls it opens a family of control codes. We confirm which applies from your model before we test anything.
Will unplugging the range clear F1?
Cutting power for up to 30 seconds is a safe first try and sometimes clears a one-time glitch. If F1 comes straight back with no keys touched, something is still reading a key as pressed, and we should look.
Is it worth repairing an older range that shows F1?
Often it is, when the cause is a keypad. If the control itself is the cause on a very old range, we say plainly whether the price makes sense before you decide to go ahead.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
