What UL means
UL appears on Frigidaire Professional direct-feed dishwashers, such as PLD4555RFC0 and PLD4375RFC0, when the control has been programmed into a UL test mode. This is a testing state used to check the dishwasher, not a problem the control found. If you see UL, the dishwasher is waiting in or running a test and will not behave like a normal wash. These are older dishwashers that are still in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of UL
- The control left in a test state after a button sequence
- A stuck or sticking pad on the control panel
- The control itself, if UL keeps returning
1. Cancel any running cycle. 2. Open and close the door firmly, then wait a minute. 3. Press each control pad once, lightly, to check none feels stuck. 4. Start a normal cycle and see whether UL clears. 5. Leave the dishwasher unused until we visit if UL stays.
- Your checks cannot tell us whether the test state was triggered by a stuck pad or by the control itself.
- We check the pads and then the control, and we do not replace a board until we know it is the cause.
- Our price is quoted in writing before we begin.
Other Dishwasher codes
Is UL an error code?
No. It is a test-mode message, so the control is in a testing state. It does not point to a failed part by itself. Nothing in a UL display points to a worn part.
Why will my dishwasher not start a normal wash?
In test mode the control is not set up for a normal cycle. We find out why it stayed there, then clear it. Pads that stick are common on older controls, which is why we start there.
Can you fix an older Professional dishwasher?
Yes. We repair these models and tell you plainly if a repair is not worth making. If a stuck pad is not the reason, we look at the control.
Still unsure about UL?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
