What LOC means

LOC on a Frigidaire dishwasher with a digital status window from the i-code generation, roughly 2010 and later, indicates the door is locked. Examples include FGID2466QF and FFBD2411NS. It is an information message, not a failure. The door latch is engaged while the dishwasher runs, and LOC tells you not to force the door open. It should clear when the cycle ends.

Common causes of LOC

  • The door is latched because a cycle is running or just ended
  • The door latch not releasing after a cycle
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Wait for the cycle to finish. 2. Check that the status window shows the cycle is done. 3. Try opening the door again after the cycle ends. 4. If LOC stays after the cycle ends and the door will not open, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the door stays locked after the cycle, the latch may not be releasing and we test it.
  • We do not recommend forcing the door open.
  • No repair is needed if LOC clears normally.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
LOCLOC questions
Is LOC an error?

No. It tells you the door is locked, which is normal during a cycle. It should go away when the cycle is finished. It is not a problem to fix.

Can I open the door while LOC is displayed?

You should wait. Forcing the door can damage the latch. When the cycle ends, the lock should release. Waiting a short while is safest. Waiting is safest.

LOC is still on and the cycle is finished. What now?

The latch may not be releasing or the control may not be clearing the message. We can test both. Please do not force the door. We test the release before replacing anything.
