What Add Water means
On Frigidaire-brand countertop ice makers such as the EFIC117, EFIC108, EFIC123 and EFIC189, the ADD WATER indicator lights when the water reservoir does not have enough water. Ice making stops until the reservoir is refilled. This is a normal prompt and not a breakdown. If the light stays on after you refill the reservoir, the unit may not be reading the water level correctly.
Common causes of Add Water
- An empty or low reservoir
- A water level sensor that is dirty or reading wrong
- A pump or control that is not responding after a refill
1. Add water to the reservoir up to the fill line. 2. Press ON/OFF to restart the unit. 3. Check that the reservoir is seated fully in place. 4. Wipe the inside of the reservoir if there is mineral film. 5. If the light stays on with a full reservoir, call us to schedule service.
- A full reservoir with the light still on tells us the level reading is wrong, but not whether the cause is film on the sensor or the control.
- We check the sensor and the pump circuit step by step.
- If the cost is higher than the ice maker is worth, we will tell you before any work begins.

Why does my ice maker say Add Water when it looks full?
The unit senses the water level and may be reading it wrong, often because of mineral film or a reservoir that is not fully seated. If that does not fix it, we check the sensor. The light is a prompt, not a warning of damage.
Do I need to press anything after refilling?
Yes. Add the water, then press ON/OFF to restart the ice maker. Use clean water at the fill line for the best results. If you use very hard water, mineral film builds up faster and may affect the level reading.
Do you repair countertop ice makers?
Yes. We repair them, quote the price in writing first, and say plainly if a repair is not worth it for a countertop unit. Do not overfill past the line.
Still unsure about Add Water?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
