What PF means
PF on Frigidaire electronic-display refrigerators means the control noticed a power outage or a power surge. It appears on French-door, four-door and side-by-side models with a Power Fail indicator. After the power returns, the display shows PF so you know the refrigerator was interrupted, and a High Temp alarm may follow if the compartments warmed. PF is an information message, not a failed part. If PF keeps showing with no outage that you know of, a surge or a flickering supply may be the reason.
Common causes of PF
- A power outage or surge that interrupted the refrigerator
- A flickering supply at the outlet
- A control that does not clear the message after power returns
1. Press Alarm Reset to acknowledge the message. 2. Check that the doors are closed and the food still feels cold. 3. If the display shows HI as well, see that code and give the compartments time to cool. 4. Move food to a cooler if it feels warm.
- If PF returns with no outage, we do not know whether the supply, the outlet or the control is the cause.
- We check the outlet and the control behavior after a power cycle.
- If a repair is needed, we put the price in writing before any work.
Other Refrigerator codes
Does PF mean the refrigerator is broken?
No. PF means the refrigerator saw a power interruption or surge. Pressing Alarm Reset usually clears it. A High Temp alarm may follow if the compartments warmed.
Is my food safe after a power failure?
That depends on how long the power was out and how warm the compartments got. If the food still feels cold, it is likely fine. If it feels warm, use normal food safety rules.
What if PF keeps coming back?
Check whether the outlet circuit trips or flickers. If PF keeps showing, call us and we will look at the refrigerator and explain what we find.
Still unsure about PF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
