What P2 means
P2 is the code a Frigidaire wine cooler or beverage center with an electronic control shows when the primary sensor circuit is open. The primary sensor is the one that reads the temperature inside the cabinet, and the control relies on it to decide when to run the compressor. When the circuit is open, nothing comes back, as if the wire were cut, and the control cannot hold your setting. You may see P2, a cooler that runs too long or one that stays warm.
Common causes of P2
- Primary temperature sensor open
- Connector or wire to the sensor
- Main control board input
1. Check that the cooler has power and the door shuts properly. 2. Keep bottles away from the sensor area and the vents. 3. Unplug the cooler for a few minutes, then plug it back in. 4. If P2 returns, call us.
- An open primary sensor can be the sensor, a connector or the board input.
- We test the sensor and its wiring, then the board, and quote in writing before we replace anything.
- If the repair would cost more than the cooler is worth, we say that first.
Other Wine & Beverage Cooler codes
What does the primary sensor do?
It tells the control the temperature inside the cabinet. Without it the control cannot hold the setting, and temperatures can drift up or down in either direction.
Is P2 the same as P3?
They are a pair. P2 is an open primary sensor and P3 is a shorted one. We test the sensor and its wiring for both before replacing anything.
Will the cooler run without the sensor?
It may keep running, but not in a controlled way. We would test it soon, especially if wine is stored inside, since bottles can warm up.
Still seeing P2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
