What E2 means
E2 appears on a Frigidaire wine cooler or beverage center with an electronic control when the evaporator sensor circuit is open. The evaporator is the cold coil in the cabinet, and its sensor lets the control know when to run and when to defrost. An open circuit is like a cut wire: no reading comes back at all. The control then cannot time cooling and defrost properly. You may see E2 on the display, warmer bottles than you expect or a cooler that cycles in an odd pattern.
Common causes of E2
- Evaporator sensor with an open circuit
- Wiring or connector to the sensor
- Main control board input for the sensor
1. Check that the cooler has power and the door is shut. 2. Make sure the vents inside are not blocked by bottles. 3. Unplug the cooler for a few minutes, then plug it back in. 4. If E2 returns, call us.
- E2 says the sensor circuit is open. A loose connector can mimic a bad sensor.
- We test the sensor and its wiring first, then the board, and you get a written price before anything is replaced.
- If the cooler is too old for the repair to pay off, we say so.

What does an open sensor mean?
The circuit is broken, so the control gets no reading. It can be the sensor itself or a loose connection. We test the wire and the sensor before replacing anything.
Is E2 the same as E3?
They are opposites. E2 is an open evaporator sensor and E3 is a shorted one. Both need the sensor and its wiring tested, and the cause can be the part, a connector or the board.
Will the cooler still cool?
It may keep cooling for a while, but without a good reading the temperature can drift too warm or too cold. Check on any wine stored inside.
Still seeing E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
