What E-13 means
On Frigidaire convection microwaves, such as FPMO209KF, E-13 is a gas sensor maximum time error. During a sensor cook the control waits for information from the sensor, and E-13 appears when no information arrives in time. The sensor here detects vapor from food and has nothing to do with natural gas. The cooking stops and you see E-13 on the display.
Common causes of E-13
- The sensor and its plug
- Food that does not give off enough vapor for the sensor
- A door or vent condition that keeps vapor from reaching the sensor
- The control board
1. Cover the food loosely and try the sensor setting again. 2. Wipe the inside of the microwave and the door seal. 3. Try a timed cook for comparison. 4. If E-13 returns on every sensor cook, call us to schedule service.
- One E-13 with an unusual food may not be a problem at all, while E-13 on every sensor cook points to the sensor or control.
- We test the sensor circuit during a real sensor cook.
- We tell you the price in writing first and say plainly if the repair is not worth it.
Other Microwave codes
Why did the microwave stop during sensor cooking?
The control did not get information from the sensor in time, so it stopped and showed E-13. Food with little moisture can leave the sensor with nothing to read.
Is E-13 caused by the food?
Sometimes. Some foods give little vapor. If it happens with several foods, the sensor path is more likely. Try again with a different food before assuming a repair is needed.
Do you repair microwave sensors?
Yes. We repair them and tell you plainly when it is not worth it. If it keeps happening, we test the sensor. Tell us which food you were cooking and what setting you used so we can compare it with the sensor.
Still seeing E-13?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
