What E-11 / E-12 means
E-11 and E-12 on Frigidaire convection microwaves, such as FPMO209KF, refer to the gas sensor. This is the sensor that detects vapor from food for automatic sensor cooking, not a natural gas sensor. E-11 means the sensor circuit is open. E-12 means it is shorted. The microwave may refuse sensor cooking or stop with the code displayed. You may also see the sensor cook setting refuse to start.
Common causes of E-11 / E-12
- The sensor and its plug
- The wiring between the sensor and the control
- The control board input
- Moisture or residue near the sensor
1. Wipe the inside of the microwave and let it dry fully. 2. Try a timed cook cycle instead of a sensor setting. 3. Make sure the door closes fully. 4. If the code returns, call us to schedule service.
- The code tells us whether the circuit reads open or shorted, but not why.
- We test the sensor and its plug first and the board last.
- We tell you plainly if an older microwave is not worth the repair.
Other Microwave codes
Is E-11 a gas leak warning?
No. The gas sensor in a microwave detects vapor from food, not natural gas. The code is about the sensor circuit. The word gas can be misleading.
How are E-11 and E-12 different?
The open reading is E-11, and the shorted reading is E-12. Either way the sensor cannot report. The sensor in question reads steam and vapor from the food.
Can I still use the microwave?
A timed cook may still work. The sensor settings may not. We confirm what works on the visit. A written price comes before any repair.
Still seeing E-11 / E-12?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
