What F1 means
F1 on older Frigidaire Professional and Gallery built-in wall ovens whose display shows only F1, F2, F3 or F9 tells you the oven control has found a failure inside itself. On those wall ovens it stands for a family of control problems, including a runaway temperature, a shorted keypad and a corrupted internal check. Frigidaire and White-Westinghouse electric ranges with ES 100, 200, 300 and 400 oven controls also use F1 to point to the electronic oven control itself, which usually needs to be replaced. These are older ovens still in many Houston homes.
Common causes of F1
- The electronic oven control
- A shorted keypad or a stuck pad
- A runaway temperature condition the control caught
- Corrupted memory inside the control
1. Press CLEAR. 2. Disconnect power to the oven for 30 seconds at the plug or the breaker, then restore it. 3. Keep the oven off if you smell burning or the cavity feels too hot. 4. If F1 returns, stop using the oven and call us to schedule service.
- On the wall ovens F1 covers several different codes, and only a technician's readout names the exact one.
- We read the exact code and then check the control, keypad and sensor before we recommend a replacement.
- We tell you the price in writing and say plainly if an older oven is not worth repairing.
Other Wall Oven codes
Does F1 always mean a bad control?
On the ES range controls, yes, the control is the failed part. On the older wall ovens F1 stands for several codes, so we read the exact one first. Press CLEAR and cut the power only once, and if F1 returns do not keep repeating it.
Will cutting power for 30 seconds fix it?
It may clear a one-time event. If F1 returns, the cause is still there. The oven should not be used to bake while F1 shows.
Can you repair older Frigidaire ovens?
Yes. Our technicians repair them and say so plainly when a repair is not worth it. We read the exact code to name the part. Bring the oven's model and serial number to the visit if you can find them.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
