When a Frigidaire laundry center stops partway through a cycle, the cause is often the door latch, an unbalanced load or a drain problem. A laundry center is a washer and dryer in one frame, so the first question is which half is stopping.
If the Washer Half Stops
- Open the door and check that the latch closes firmly. A worn latch or a stuck lock cancels the cycle.
- Redistribute the load. A bunched towel or a bedspread can throw the drum off balance and pause or end the cycle.
- Check the drain filter and hose, as a slow drain can stop the cycle at the wash-to-spin transition.
- Look at the display for a code. Write it down exactly as shown; we do not guess meanings from memory.
If the Dryer Half Stops
- Clean the lint screen and check the exhaust vent. Restricted air trips the thermal limit and shuts off heat.
- Check that the door switch is not sticking.
- Look for a tripped breaker, since electric dryers use a double breaker that can trip on one side.
What We Cannot Say From the Sign
A cycle that quits can be a door lock, a pressure switch, a motor overheating, a control board or a tripped breaker. A unit that stops at the same point each time points to a specific stage, such as the drain or the spin. One that stops at random can be an overheating motor or a loose electrical connection. We run the machine and watch it stop.
Older Units
A stacked unit has two machines sharing one cabinet, so a major repair on one half affects the decision about the whole unit. When a laundry center is fifteen years old, we compare the likely repair against what you would pay to replace it. A new door latch is an easy decision, while a worn drum bearing may not be.
