Dryer fires usually start with lint that has built up where hot air should be leaving. If your Frigidaire dryer shows any of the signs below, stop using it until the vent has been cleared and the cause is found.
Warning Signs
- Clothes and the outside of the dryer feel unusually hot after a normal cycle.
- A burning or hot-lint smell during or right after a cycle.
- Drying times that have crept up over months.
- Lint around the vent hood outside, or a vent flap that stays closed.
- Humidity or moisture on the wall or window of the laundry room.
Any one of these is enough reason to disconnect the duct and look. A single warm cycle is not a reason to panic, but a pattern is.
What to Do Right Away
- Stop the dryer and unplug it. For a gas dryer, leave the gas valve alone unless you smell gas.
- Pull the dryer away from the wall and check the duct for lint and kinks.
- Clean the lint screen and the opening behind it.
- If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility. Gas line work belongs to a licensed plumber, not to us.
What We Can and Cannot Tell From the Sign
A hot dryer can come from a clogged vent, but it can also come from a thermostat or limit switch that is no longer shutting off the heat. We check both: airflow at the vent first, then the heating parts and safety devices. If the vent run is too long or has too many bends, we point that out, though rerouting ductwork inside walls is outside what we do.
Older dryers deserve extra attention because lint can collect inside the cabinet and around the burner or element. If one is badly worn, we will tell you plainly whether a repair or a replacement is safer.
When you want it looked at, ring us or send the online form. We set a three-hour window with you at booking. More at our Frigidaire dryer repair page.
