Laundry centers are popular in apartments, townhomes and hall closets, and those closets are often warm and poorly ventilated. A few habits help the whole unit last, including older Frigidaire models that are well past warranty.
Washer Half
- Leave the door open after a load so moisture can leave. A closed, damp drum grows mildew.
- Wipe the door gasket and remove trapped lint and hair.
- Use the amount of detergent in the manual. Too much builds up as residue and odor.
- Clean the drain filter every few months.
Dryer Half
- Clean the lint screen every load.
- Once a year, disconnect the duct and clear lint from it and from the vent hood outside.
- Do not overload. Clothes need room to tumble for air to move.
- Keep the closet door louvered or open during use so the unit can pull air.
The Cabinet and Hoses
Level the unit so the drum does not vibrate and walk. Look at the water hoses once a year and replace any with bulges, cracks or rust at the connection. Check that the supply valves open and close freely. A slow drip behind a laundry closet can run for weeks before anyone notices, so touch the connections now and then.
Signs to Act On
Louder than usual noise, a burning smell, longer cycles or water on the floor are signs to stop and look. Do not wait for the unit to quit completely, because a worn belt or a failing bearing damages other parts if it keeps running.
Many laundry centers we service are ten to twenty years old, and we repair them when the frame and drum are sound. If a repair does not make sense, we say so before you pay for it.
Ask for a visit by phone or online form. The arrival window we confirm is three hours wide. Details are on our laundry center page.
