The FGEC3048U is a Gallery 30-inch electric cooktop with a Quick Boil element, SpaceWise expandable elements and front-mounted controls. Versions with a B or an S at the end are the same cooktop in other finishes.
Front controls are convenient but they sit close to the heat and to spills, so the switches and their connectors are a common place for us to start. We test the element with a meter, then the switch that feeds it. If an expandable element heats only in the center, the outer coil and its switch contact are tested separately.
A Quick Boil element that takes longer than before can be a worn coil or a weak connection at the terminal block, and we check both. We read the model and serial from the label before we order, and you hear the price before any repair begins.

Why is one ring of my expandable element cold?
The outer ring has its own coil and switch contact. We test each with a meter to find the open one, so you are quoted the single part that has failed rather than a whole new element set.
My Quick Boil element is slow now. What could cause that?
A worn coil, a loose terminal or a failing switch can all reduce the heat. We measure each and confirm which one is responsible before suggesting a part, and the price is in writing first.
Do front controls cause extra repairs?
They are not worse, but they get more spills and heat near the knobs. We check the knob stems and switch connectors, clean what we can, and replace only the parts that no longer make contact.
